BBQ Chicken Recipe
3.73 min. | 4.9159665 user rating | 55954 views
Chef Jason Hill of www.CookingSessions.com shows you make a delicious and easy BBQ chicken recipe in this episode of "Chef Tips." After visiting the North Shore's roadside huli huli chicken stands, Jason heads home to the chicken to share his version of Hawaiian BBQ chicken. First, prepare your BBQ chicken marinade the day before you plan to grill. Though you can prepare this as a BBQ rotisserie chicken, the results are more flavorful when you cut chicken into pieces. This recipe for BBQ chicken uses a flavorful marinade that includes brown sugar, honey, pineapple juice, sesame oil, fresh grated ginger and crushed garlic. When cooking BBQ chicken, consider using a smoker box. For authentic Hawaiian BBQ, use kiawe wood (known in America as mesquite chips). Once the honey BBQ chicken sauce has soaked into the meat overnight, remove from the refrigerator and cook over high heat, skin side down, turning a couple times. Then, move to the low burner and shut the lid, where it will slowly cook and smoke for about 30 minutes, or until the internal temperature reaches 165 F. The smaller pieces will cook more quickly than the larger breast pieces. Serve this with your favorite mac salad, cole slaw and white rice. Go to http for the full printed recipe.

Garlic Shrimp Recipe
2.32 min. | 4.8259354 user rating | 1189312 views
Hawaii is known for its white sand beaches, tropical climate and fun water sports. But any food lover wil tell you that the real draw on Oahu is the fresh garlic shrimp, served at roadside shrimp trucks along the North Shore. Chef Jason Hill shows you how to make garlic shrimp scampi modeled after the famous shrimp shacks in Kahuku. At our favorite stop, Giovanni's shrimp truck, in Kahuku, each plate includes 12 shrimp with two mounds of steamed sticky calrose rice and a lemon wedge. We hope you enjoy this — it's almost a perfect replica of Giovanni's shrimp. Mahalo! Hawaiian Shrimp Truck Scampi 10 shell-on U-15 (extra large) shrimp, deveined 1 head (10 cloves) garlic, peeled and roughly chopped 1 cup flour 2 tablespoons paprika 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (1 tablespoon for spicier tastes) 1/2 stick clarified butter (see our video recipe) 1/2 teaspoon salt 1/8 cup white wine 2 tablespoons regular butter To begin, rinse and thaw your large shrimp in cool running water. Lightly pat dry. In a wide tupperware dish, place the flour, paprika and cayenne pepper. Mix lightly with your hands and coat each piece of shrimp on both sides. Heat saute pan over high heat. Add clarified butter and garlic. Stir for 1 minute, then add all of the shrimp, which has been coated in the flour mixture. Saute 3 minutes on each side. After 3 minutes on the second side, add the 1/8 cup of white wine and 2 tablespoons butter. Saute, turning shrimp occasionally, until it reaches a caramel brown color

Super Bowl Food - Hawaiian Garlic Chicken Recipe

Hawaiian Garlic Chicken is a killer Super Bowl Party food that you're gonna love! Garlic Chicken is another great Hawaiian favourite that's super easy to make. In fact, we can look at this post as 2 recipes in one since we're gonna be making a stop in Japan on the way. I love Hawaiian food because it's a melting pot of cultures. You have your Asian and American influences all mingling together with local island ingredients and flavours. This recipe is great finger food for watching the game and having a beer, or serving at parties. It's also awesome with rice as part of a mix plate! YouTube subscriber, Kratz808 gave me the idea to make this and since she's homesick for some serious ono grindz, I'm dedicating this recipe to you! Full recipe link: bit.ly

Spam Musubi Recipe: Easy Hawaiian Cooking

Spam Musubi is a very good example of taking a recipe and making it yours. It's a fusion of Japanese technique with a local island taste for this famous canned wondermeat. On the mainland, SPAM is often overlooked as ... well... food. But the Hawaiians have been enjoying this for ages. You have your saltiness of the SPAM in contrast with the sweetness of the sauce and the crispy bite of nori. I have been wanting to show you this recipe for a long time, so let's get to work! In this video, Betty demonstrates how to make her Fanciful Fruit Kebabs. This is a way to serve fruit that is gorgeous and appealing. Just select the types of fresh fruit that you like and place them on skewers--It's great for a buffet or party! Ingredients: About 3 different fresh fruits that can be cut into approximately equally-sized shapes, but are contrasting in color and flavor (I used cantaloupe, pineapple, and strawberries.) bamboo (or metal) skewers Wash and prepare your fresh fruit pieces in sizes that are about 3/4-inch cubes. Pierce fruit with bamboo skewer, and slide the fruit to the bottom of the skewer. Continue adding fruit, altenating types of fruit, consistently, until the skewer is as full as you want. Adjust the fruit pieces on the skewer, if needed. Place all completed fruit skewers on a serving plate, and serve with fruit dip. I have a few fruit dips in bettyskitchen, the latest one being Friendship Fruit Dip. This is a fun and fancy look for fruit that I think you will enjoy! Love, --Betty ♥ :)
Hawaiian Beef Curry Stew
5.63 min. | 4.875 user rating | 1385 views
I did not name this recipe. I don't know what makes it Hawaiian. I just saw the recipe and made it. Ingredients: 2-2.5 pounds of beef stew meat 2 Potatoes, cubed 1 Onion, quartered 2 Carrots, sliced 3 stalks of Celery, chopped 4 tablespoons of Curry powder 4 Cups of Water 2 cubes of Beef bouillon 2-3 teaspoons of salt 1/4 cup of flour 1/4 cup of very cold water Instructions: Brown meat on all sides, cover with water, add bouillon cubes, and cook covered for 1.5 hours. Add vegetables and cook until potatos and carrots are tender. Cook curry powder in a bit of sesame or peanut oil (to get rid of the raw taste). and add it to the mixture. After the stew is cooked, mix flour and cold water well, using a wire wisk to remove all the lumps, and stir it into the stew. Cook, stirring constantly, until the stew thickens. Serve over steamed rice. CROCKPOT HAWAIIAN CURRY STEW: Mix all ingredients except flower and water paste in a large crockpot and mix well. Cook on high 4-6 ours or on low for 8-10 hours. After stew is cooked, mix flour and water paste as directed above, mix into stew, and cook on high heat, stirring constantly, for 5 or 10 minutes, or until thickened.
Betty's Garlic Aioli Sauce Recipe
7.73 min. | 4.775281 user rating | 13789 views
In this video, Betty demonstrates how to make a tasty Garlic Aioli Sauce. This sauce is made up of garlic, sea salt, egg yolks, and extra virgin olive oil. I use a blender to make the process very easy. You may use this sauce to spread sandwiches, or to add flavor to other dishes. It is delicious! (Note: I'm sorry I was MIA yesterday—my computer service has been down from Thursday night until this morning...I just spent the extra time cooking and planning some meals for you!) Ingredients: 2 cloves garlic, minced ¼ teaspoon sea salt 2 egg yolks ½ cup extra virgin olive oil Mince 2 cloves of garlic on a cutting board, and add ¼ teaspoon coarse sea salt. Mince the garlic and salt together until garlic is finely minced and juicy. Place the salted garlic in a blender. Add 2 egg yolks, and pulse the blender a few times to combine the flavors. Now, slowly pour ½ cup extra virgin olive oil through the top of the blender, and blend on the lowest speed. As you continue to pour in the olive oil, you may pour it a little faster, and blend at a higher speed. When you have blended about ½ cup olive oil in, take the blender lid off and check the consistency of your Garlic Aioli Sauce. It should be like mayonnaise. When it is the consistency of mayonnaise, use a long, thin spatula to remove the Garlic Aioli Sauce from the blender, and place it in a small serving bowl. Use as desired. I will be making Cheesy Garlic Aioli French Bread with my sauce, and I plan to upload it tomorrow! (Note

Stuffed Aburage (Cooking with mom)
6.33 min. | 0 user rating | 1497 views
Thanks again for all your well wishes for mom. Her surgery was today and she called me two hours ago saying the she is doing really good. She sounded good. She only has minimal pain. Her orthopedist told me that he will have her walking tomorrow, so it looks like things are on schedule! She had a hip replacement in case you didn't see the other video. Yields 6-8 servings 2 packages aburage (fried bean curd) Stuffing: 1-1/2 lb. ground pork (we used turkey and the flavor is just better, IMO) 1/3 cup water chestnuts, chopped 3 Tbsp. green onions, minced 2 eggs, beaten 2 Tbsp. shoyu 1 Tbsp. sugar 1-1/4 tsp. salt Oyster sauce to taste (3-4 Tbsp) Sesame oil to taste (2 Tbsp) Chicken broth Cut aburage in half and stuff with above ingredients. Place in pot and pour enough chicken broth to come up about 2/3 the way up of the aburage. Bring to a boil, then simmer for about 45 minutes to an hour. After every one of my surgeries, this is the only thing I wanted and would make my stomach feel settled and full. It is a real comfort food for me.
Crock Pot Laulau
10.87 min. | 4.785714 user rating | 2019 views
Laulau or lau lau is one of very few traditional Hawaiian dishes. They are usually pork and salt fish wrapped in luau (taro) leaf, wrapped in ti leaf, then wrapped either with the stem of the ti leaf or a piece of string and then put into a pressure cooker to cook. We would get together to make these at times and sit and talk while it cooked, then take home our green packets of goodness :) When I saw this recipe to cook it in the slow cooker, I had to make it. It was delicious. Unfortunately, this is a dish that only locals (from Hawaii) or people with access to taro and ti leaves can make, sorry. There really isn't a substitute. Some places do a mock laulau with spinach, but it really is not the same. 6 lbs. boneless pork butt or country-style ribs 2 lb. fresh luau leaves, cleaned and washed. Hawaiian salt, to taste (approx. 3 Tbsp.) 3 Tbsp. shoyu 6 ti leaf, cleaned and thick rib removed 1/4 c. water Cut pork butt into 1-1/2 inch cubes and place in large bowl. Add salt and shoyu, mixing so that all pieces are covered evenly. Line 5-quart crock-pot bottom and sides with 4 ti leaves, shiny side up (facing food). Place slightly more than half the luau leaves over the ti leaves, forming a slight basket up the sides of the crock pot. Place pork on the luau leaves and cover with remaining luau leaves. Place remaining ti leaves over top (shiny side down, facing food), tucking in edges. Add water down the sides of ti leaves. Cover tightly with foil and crock pot cover. Cook on
