HilahCooking - How To Make Red Beans and Rice ~ Hilah's Easy Red Beans and Rice Recipe!
5.50 min. | 4.8863635 user rating | 50169 views
Learn how to make Red Beans and Rice with this easy recipe video! Red beans and rice is possibly the most New Orleans of New Orleans cooking. Traditionally made on Mondays with the leftover Sunday ham, nowadays it's often served with sausage or a pork chop on the side. Subscribe on YouTube (Never miss a video!) www.youtube.com Over 100 video recipes at hilahcooking.com. My recipe is good for vegetarians, though, because it gets its flavoring from the Holy Trinity of celery, onion, and bell pepper plus smoked paprika rather than ham hocks. Fry up some sliced andouille or other sausage to serve on the side for meat-eaters. INGREDIENTS * 1 pound kidney beans, soaked overnight in 6 cups water * 1 onion, diced * 3 stalks celery, diced * 2 bay leaves * 1 bell pepper, diced * 4 cloves garlic, minced * 1 teaspoon dried thyme * 1 tablespoon chopped parsley * 1-2 teaspoons salt * 2 teaspoons smoked paprika * Hot buttered rice to serve INSTRUCTIONS * Drain the beans from their soaking water and rinse. * Put into a large pot with 4 cups water, onion, celery, and bay leaves. Cover pot. * Bring to boil, then reduce heat and simmer 1 to 1.5 hours, or until beans are soft. * Add bell pepper, garlic, thyme, salt and pepper. Simmer uncovered an additional 30 minutes. * Use a large spoon to mash some of the beans against the side of the pot to make a creamy gravy. * Serve over buttered rice.
Betty's Cajun Beans and Franks
9.75 min. | 4.8054056 user rating | 8599 views
In this video, Betty demonstrates how to make Cajun Beans and Franks. The inspiration for this recipe came from the brunch we had at Boone Tavern Hotel and Restaurant recently. One of the items on the buffet was Beans and Franks. I was intrigued by those, because I had never thought to make them in bettyskitchen. Rick (my husband) asked the chef about the recipe, and the chef indicated that they used andouille sausage, kidney beans, and green pepper. My standard recipe uses hot dogs, pork and beans, and no green pepper. I combined my recipe with the information from the Boone Tavern chef to come up with a dish that is hearty, easy to make, and tastes wonderful! Ingredients: 12 ounces andouille smoked sausage (fully cooked--about 4 links) 1 medium onion, chopped 1 medium green bell pepper, chopped (2) 15.5-ounce cans light red kidney beans, including liquid (You may use dark red kidney beans, if you prefer.) ½ cup ketchup ½ cup molasses 1/8 teaspoon hot sauce cooking oil spray Slice 12 ounces of andouille sausage into ¼-inch slices. Brown slices in a deep skillet and drain any excess fat. Add 1 chopped onion and 1 chopped green pepper. Cook over low heat, stirring occasionally, until onions are soft. Add 2 cans of kidney beans, ½ cup ketchup, ½ cup molasses, and 1/8 teaspoon hot sauce. Stir until well combined. Spoon mixture into an 8-inch by 10-inch baking dish that has been sprayed with cooking oil spray. Bake, uncovered, at 350 degrees (F) for 40 minutes, stirring after

Destination Haitian Cuisine
4.67 min. | 4.9324327 user rating | 28851 views
Haitian food is similar to the rest of the Latin-Caribbean (the French and the Spanish-speaking countries of the Antilles) however it differs in several ways from its regional counterparts. Its primary influence derive from French, and African cuisine, with notable derivatives from native Taíno and Spanish culinary technique. Though similar to other cooking styles in the region, it carries a uniqueness native only to the country and an appeal to many visitors to the island. Haitians use vegetables and meats extensively and peppers and similar herbs are often used for strengthening flavor. Dishes tend to be seasoned liberally and consequently Haitian cuisine tends to be moderately spicy, not mild and not too hot. In the country, however, many businesses of foreign origin have been established introducing several foreign cuisines into the mainstream culture. Years of adaptation have led to these cuisines (ie: Levantine from Arab migration to Haiti) to merge into Haitian cuisine. Rice and beans in several differing ways are eaten throughout the country regardless of location, becoming a sort of national dish. They form the staple diet, which consists of a lot of starch and is high in carbohydrates. In the more rural areas, however, at great distances from the major cities, other foods are eaten to a larger degree such as mais moulu (mayi moulen), a dish comparable to cornmeal that can be eaten with sauce pois (sos pwa) [a bean sauce made from one of many types of beans such

Betty's Slow Cooker Pot Roast with Brown Gravy Recipe
9.45 min. | 4.8 user rating | 37504 views
In this video, Betty responds to a viewer request for a crock pot meal. Betty demonstrates how to use a crock pot to make a nifty pot roast meal--super tender roast beef, surrounded by potatoes, carrots, and onions--with a flavorful, velvety brown gravy. Ingredients: 1 1/2 pounds top round beef roast (I used Laura's Lean Beef.) freshly ground black pepper, to cover roast on all sides 1 1/2 tablespoons vegetable oil (I used peanut oil.) 3 medium to large-sized russet potatoes, peeled and cut into quarters (Any variety of potato will work.) 2 medium onions, peeled and cut into sixths (I used white onions.) 1/2 oz. small cellophane package of baby carrots (You may use any carrots, peeled and cut in pieces.) 10.5 oz. can beef broth 10.5 oz. can beef consomme 1/2 of a 6 oz. can of tomato paste (Use the whole can, if you like a more tomato-y flavor.) 1/2 cup water 3 tablespoon cornstarch Crack fresh peppercorns over all sides of your 1 1/2 pound top round roast, and rub it in. In a large, deep skillet, heat 1 1/2 tablespoons peanut oil. When hot, place the roast in the sizzling oil and brown it on all sides. Place the browned roast into a crock pot (slow cooker). Arrange the potato pieces around and on top of the roast. Then, place the cut onions on top of the potatoes. Finally, place the baby carrots (or carrot pieces) on top of the onions. Now, combine 10.5 oz. beef broth, 10.5 oz. beef consomme, and 1/2 of a 6 oz. can of tomato paste in a medium-sized bowl. Pour over the

My Grandparents chose to love each other when they met as teenagers, and then, they chose to love each other every part of every day, through the Great Depression, through absence during war, child rearing, work, illnesses... Life. Finding TRUE love? They met... And That was it. Again, the true love part was a daily choice whether either was as attractive or as exciting as the day they met. True love depends on each person, not just the one you find or the one that finds you. In other words, Love is a Choice, because we are not 110% lovable 24 hours a day. True love is when each person sees that real life is not like a romance movie script True love is accepting the fact of real life, which brings creative challenges that, with the choice to love, can increase attraction. Popular novels, songs, shows, movies... Each have scripts that are no doubt, inspired. The talented people that write and act, the hundreds or thousands of people that are the list of credits at the end of a movie - from the accountants to the doctors to the musicians and screenwriters - They work on projects that, as finished masterpieces, may often have coincidental similarities to your definition of romance and the most often undefined and over-used phrase...
